Activa™
Bioretec’s Activa-series implants offer a variation of bioabsorbable healthcare solutions. All products from Activa-series are made of PLGA. The poly L-lactide-co-glycolide copolymer, has a long history in medical use, and the monomers, building blocks of PLGA are part of the normal chemistry in mammalian cells. PLGA has long been used in medical field due to its useful features: it slowly degrades when it reacts with water in the human body, dissolving back to its building blocks and eventually to carbon dioxide and water, which are then exhaled and excreted.
Activa-implants dissolve completely in the body in approximately two years. This removes the need for surgery to remove implants, which in turn decrease the resources needed and suffering of the patient. Since Activa-series implants do not include any metal, the risk of disturbances in X-RAY or MR scanning is eliminated, which leads to more precise imaging.
Activa-implants have been used in 35 different countries worldwide and the track record is excellent.
