Activa Technology: Reliable Partner for the Fracture Management

Activa implants are specifically designed for stabilizing bone fractures and repairing soft tissue injuries when appropriate immobilization is applied. With a track record spanning over 20 years in clinical settings, these implants have been trusted for hundreds of thousands of both adult and pediatric patients due to their demonstrated safety and effectiveness.

Absorbable self-reinforced biopolymer

Poly L-lactide-co-glycolide copolymer, PLGA85/15

Activa implants are made from poly L-lactide-co-glycolide copolymer (PLGA). The monomers of PLGA are L-lactic acid and glycolic acid, also part of the normal chemistry of mammalian cells, and are metabolized into carbon dioxide and water by human cells, which are then exhaled and excreted (citric acid cycle).

Material Composition

Made from poly L-lactide-co-glycolide copolymer (PLGA85/15), a self-reinforcing biopolymer known for its strength, amorphous structure and biocompatibility

Degradation Timeline

Designed to gradually absorb into the body within approximately two years, aligning with the natural healing process and eliminating the need for removal surgery

Key properties

High mechanical strength and controlled resorption rate to provide stable support during critical healing phases. Biocompatible, reducing risks of immune reaction or adverse effects

Unique Functionalities

The non-metal composition avoids interference with radiological imaging techniques (X-ray, CT, MRI), ensuring clear intra- and postoperative imaging

Indications

Activa implants are intended to be used in versatile indications covering fracture fixations (osteosynthesis), fusions (arthrodesis) and correction malalignments (osteotomies) for adults and children.

For professionals

Activa implants have earned the trust of professionals worldwide as a proven, safe alternative to traditional implants.

Certificates

Bioretec is committed to meeting the highest standards of safety and quality. Our Activa series implants hold CE-certifications and FDA market authorisations, reflecting our dedication to rigorous testing and compliance with global healthcare regulations.

Bioretec offers two individual product lines: RemeOs™ composed of magnesium-based absorbable metal alloy, and Activa made of poly L-lactide-co-glycolide copolymer (PLGA 85/15), a self-reinforcing biopolymer. PLGA is a material with a longstanding history in medical applications.

RemeOs products are used in orthopedic surgeries, specifically for fracture fixation and bone repair. Activa products instead are used in the fixation of bone fractures, osteotomies, arthrodesis, bone grafts, and osteochondral fractures, when appropriate immobilization is applied.

Bioretec products are biocompatible and absorb into the body in approximately two years. Depending on the product, they are either FDA-cleared or CE-approved.
